The Jama Masjid of Delhi, known in Persian as Masjid-i Jahan Numa ("the mosque that shows the world"), is the main mosque of Old Delhi in India's capital. It stands in the Meena Bazaar area, at the start of Chandni Chowk, one of the city's busiest and most popular streets. Sources describe it as the largest mosque in India by area and one of the larger mosques of the Islamic world. Its architecture belongs to the Islamic tradition, and it was built on the orders of the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan.

The mosque was commissioned by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan, who is also known as the builder of the Taj Mahal. Our record dates its construction to 1656, while another source gives 1658 as the year the building was completed.
