The Great Mosque of Sofia is an Ottoman-period building in the centre of Bulgaria's capital, standing opposite the presidential seat. Its original name was the Koca Mahmud Pasha Mosque. The complex included a madrasa, a water cistern and a fountain alongside the mosque itself. It is regarded as one of the country's significant architectural monuments from the Ottoman era and stands among the city-centre mosques that include the Banya Bashi and Bosnali Mehmed Pasha mosques. Today the building serves not as a place of worship but as the National Archaeological Museum. The surrounding quarter was popularly known as the Great Mosque neighbourhood.

Construction began in 1451 during the time of Vizier Mahmud Pasha. The work was completed in 1494, twenty years after the pasha's death.

During the Russo-Turkish War of 1877–1878 the building was converted into a hospital. In the following years it was used as a library. Since 1892 it has served as a museum and houses the National Archaeological Museum.
