Öküz Mehmed Paşa Mosque stands on Melek Hoca Street in the Hırka-i Şerif quarter of Istanbul's Fatih district and is registered as a cultural asset requiring protection. The present building is of reinforced concrete. It has a main dome surrounded by four smaller domes, and its last-congregation porch is covered by three small domes. The domes and the single-balcony minaret are clad in lead. The mihrab is tiled, while the minbar and pulpit are of wood. The courtyard lies a few steps above street level, with the ablution fountain beneath it. Next to the mosque stands a fountain of the same name, which keeps its original structure.

History

The mosque was built in timber in 1617 for Öküz Mehmed Pasha, a 17th-century grand vizier born in the Karagümrük district and a son-in-law of Ahmed I.

It was completely destroyed in the Great Balat Fire of 1729. For many years afterwards only the foundation remains were left on the site. The mosque was rebuilt there in reinforced concrete in 1987.

From Wikipedia

Öküz Mehmed Paşa Camii, İstanbul'un Fatih ilçesinde Hırka-i Şerif mahallesinde Melek Hoca Caddesi üzerinde bulunan Osmanlı döneminden kalma bir camidir.
