The Alamgir Mosque is a mosque in Varanasi, in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. It is also known as the Aurangzeb Mosque, and its name derives from "Alamgir", an epithet of the Mughal ruler Aurangzeb, who reigned from 1658 to 1707. According to German-language reference material, it is the oldest and most significant mosque in Varanasi, a city of over a million people with a predominantly Hindu population, though not the largest. The building holds the designation of Monument of National Importance in India. It stands on Rabindranath Tagore Road in the Sadar area.
