The Kartalab Khan Mosque, also called the Begum Bazar Mosque, stands in the Begum Bazar area of the Old City of Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. It rises from a high vaulted platform. The mosque proper occupies the western half of the platform and has a 'dochala' annex on its northern side, while a 'baoli', or stepped well, lies to the east of the platform. Five domes resting on octagonal drums roof the building. Its architecture belongs to the Mughal tradition, and it takes its name from the byname of the man who commissioned it.
