The mosque was built in 1505 under the Lodi dynasty by Wazir Miya Bhoiya, who served as prime minister during the reign of Sikandar Lodi. It lies in the area of the fourth city of the medieval Delhi Sultanate and is considered a new type of mosque developed by the Lodis.

As the surrounding district was built up in modern times, the mosque came to stand among residential and commercial establishments. It is now a Monument of National Importance under the care of the Archaeological Survey of India.
