Our record dates the building to 1967. The politician Naser Minachi (1931–2014) was among the co-founders of the institution.
Before the Islamic Revolution, Ali Shariati (1933–1977) delivered speeches here that were critical of the Pahlavi government. Around the same period, Mir Hossein Mousavi (under the pseudonym Hossein Rah'jo) and Zahra Rahnavard exhibited artworks on the premises.
The institution was tolerated for a long time by Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, but in 1972 the Pahlavi government closed it. It was reopened during the Islamic Revolution. The bookstore, established after the revolution, mainly distributes religious works.
