The Şehitlik Mosque stands on Columbiadamm in Berlin's Neukölln district and is run by DITIB. It was designed by the architect Hilmi Şenalp in the Ottoman architectural tradition. The four-storey building has a capacity of 1,500 worshippers, and the complex also includes a cultural centre and an information and meeting centre. The mosque takes its name from the adjoining historic Turkish cemetery; in this name, the Turkish word şehitlik is used in the sense of cemetery.

The Turkish cemetery from which the mosque takes its name was laid out in 1866 as a diplomatic cemetery. The present mosque was built between 1999 and 2005 by DITIB, on the site of an earlier building that served the same purpose. It was completed in 2005.

Из Википедии

The Şehitlik Mosque is a mosque in Neukölln, Berlin, Germany. The Sunni mosque was completed in 2005, and is operated by the Diyanet İşleri Türk İslam Birliği (DİTİB).

Designed in an Ottoman Revival style by Hilmi Şenalp, the four storey mosque has capacity for 1,500 worshipers. The complex also includes a cultural center, and an information and meeting center.

The mosque took its name from the Turkish cemetery, which was laid out as a diplomatic cemetery back in 1866. Among the graves of honor there are those for the Armenian genocide perpetrators Cemal Azmi and Bahattin Şakir, which was criticized by Kurdish-German politician Giyasettin Sayan in 2005.
